Description:
First Union purchased 3 separate banks over a 2 ½ year period including Signet Bank in Virginia, First Fidelity in New Jersey and Cores States in Philadelphia. The work included assimilating financial and support centers in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut and New York. Over the same period of time a new merchandising scheme was introduced across the retail footprint that affected each branch. Work included branch renovations and expansions, consolidations, closures, and new financial and service centers. Over 2,000 financial centers were affected during the period.
